We’re looking for a seasoned cook to step into a fast-paced kitchen at a well-established coastal venue in Far North Queensland—someone who can handle the pressure, work across all sections, and deliver consistently strong service with particular focus on cooking steaks and seafood and pan dishes.
This is a hands-on role suited to a capable, self-reliant cook who thrives in a structured but high-output kitchen.
You’ll be stepping into a position that requires confidence across all sections, strong time management, and the ability to maintain consistency whether working alongside the Head Chef or leading the kitchen independently.
The Role
Working within a busy coastal venue, you’ll assist the Head Chef during peak periods and take full responsibility for kitchen operations on weekends. This is not a passive support role—you’ll be expected to run service with confidence, particularly when managing dinner volumes of up to 80 covers.
Your roster includes split shifts across lunch and dinner service, with two weekdays off.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Preparing and executing bistro-style menus with a focus on consistency and quality
- Confidently running kitchen service during the Head Chef’s days off (weekends)
- Managing all sections of the kitchen independently when required
- Cooking high-quality steaks, seafood, and pan-based dishes to standard 🔪
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and compliant kitchen environment
- Supporting conference and function catering, both onsite and takeaway
- Upholding food safety, hygiene, and workplace health & safety standards
- Delivering efficient, professional service in a fast-paced environment
What We’re Looking For
This role is best suited to someone who already has solid, practical kitchen experience and is ready to step into greater responsibility.
- Proven experience working solo in a commercial kitchen
- Confidence across grill, pans, and service coordination
- Ability to handle both prep-heavy shifts and high-volume service
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Candidates must be confident and capable cooking steaks and seafood and pan dishes
- Food Safety Certificate (essential)
- Minimum 6-month commitment
The Package
- Full-time hours with annual leave
- $29.88/hr (Mon–Fri)
- $37.35/hr (Sat)
- $44.82/hr (Sun)
- 5-day work week (2 weekdays off)
- Split shifts (lunch & dinner service)

- Duty meals included 🍽️
- Flights covered from Cairns
The Property
You’ll be based at a well-established coastal hotel featuring accommodation units, landscaped grounds, pool area, restaurant, bar, and conference facilities.
The operation caters to both regular service and event-based trade, offering a varied and engaging work environment.
Telstra and Optus coverage available.
Daily flights operate via Qantas.
